Epic 2023 Sci-fi Hit Just Made a Surprising Arrival at Netflix
Fans can finally sigh with relief after that weird Japanese-only release.
Nobody really saw it coming, but it seems like Netflix finally heard everyone’s prayers. The streaming giant made a huge surprise for its subscribers by dropping on its platform last year’s big high-grossing hit Godzilla Minus One that, upon its release, was quick to garner raving reactions from both critics and viewers.
Now that the movie is available for legal streaming not only in Japan, fans across the world can go and check the epic film out or even see Netflix’s announcement as another reason for rewatching it.
Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One marks the relentless monster’s 37th appearance on the screen, but this time a truly fascinating one. The movie’s storyline unfolds in postwar Japan where not a single place was left untouched after all those years that World War II was sweeping the planet off, and a young kamikaze pilot suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) is one of many who, just like their country, need a complete and long recovery.
However, soon after the war’s end, Japan faces yet another major danger when the country is invaded by a giant monster who everyone knows as Godzilla.
Upon its release last November, Godzilla Minus One was quick to get an overall stunning success grossing around $115 million in the box office against the initial budget of $12 million and landing an impressive score of 98% from both critics and viewers.
The movie later on got another major achievement taking home an Academy award for Best Visual Effects and thus becoming one of the highest-anticipated films to wait on streaming, but not so many fans were in delight when it happened.
Earlier this year, Godzilla Minus One did have a digital release, though only in Japan, forcing fans to watch it with a VPN turned on or even on an illegal website.
Now that the hit movie is finally available on Netflix worldwide, all those issues can be officially gone.
