How real can the fiction seem?

Summary:

  • Poor Things is an incredible sci-fi tale featuring Emma Stone.
  • The movie is an excellent example of how science fiction can work with comedy.
  • The bizarre movie is a true masterpiece and is considered to be one of the best films of the past year.

When we talk about any sci-fi movie or series, the first things that come to mind are definitely dystopian societies, robots killing humans, mega brains and the big brother. All in all, our imagination creates a universe with a pretty gripping atmosphere.

And while not always, but usually people are right when they imagine some part of this to exist in every sci-fi piece. However, what we almost never think of is some bizarre comedy on the edge of being crazy.

In 2023, the world got a movie that ended up being named one of the best movies of the year and earning lots of awards. The name is Poor Things, the film created by Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone, who also played the leading role in the movie.

Mind you, Poor Things is ready to give Barbie and Oppenheimer a run for their money at the upcoming Oscars 2024 ceremony, enjoying 11 nominations.

The central story of the film is the fantastical creation of a young woman named Bella Baxter (Stone’s character) by a brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. The events take place in Victorian London under very unlikely conditions.

The thing is, Bella committed suicide while she was pregnant, and through some sort of scientific magic, Dr. Godwin Baxter replaced the woman's brain with that of her unborn fetus, resulting in her having an infant's mind.

Every viewer was amazed by the brilliant performance that Emma Stone gave in the movie, the way she portrayed a wild woman-child is definitely out of this world and once again shows her ability to adapt to any role.

“I can't imagine anyone else doing it now. Watching her evolve from a child pieced together with spare parts to a mature woman was enthralling, and both she and the movie immediately made you fall in love with her weirdness,” Redditor TheTruckWashChannel said.

The fans of the movie point out all the ridiculousness of the story, but for some reason it all feels so natural, that you even root for Bella to stay this “crazy” for a little longer.

Well, if you feel like giving Poor Things a chance, mark your calendars because it will be streaming on Hulu starting on March 7. Make sure you watch the movie before we get to know exactly how many Oscars it gets on March 10!
