Emily Prentiss May Be to Blame For Reid's Absence in Criminal Minds Reboot
Spencer Reid is the only ingredient missing from the new reboot of Criminal Minds: Evolution.
The reboot of the already iconic Criminal Minds had a warm welcome among fans of the original series, delivering strong ratings even after many seasons have passed.
However, one very important member of the BAU group, Spencer Reid, has been missing, and perhaps his absence is the fault of another, no less beloved profiler.
Although the show has already mentioned Reid's absence, viewers have not yet been given an explanation as to where the character is.
Although the actor was unable to attend the filming of the new season, his character can follow Emily Prentiss' instructions to complete the task she gave him in season 13.
As fans of the show will recall, Reid went through a lot in Mexico, and although he was reinstated as an agent and member of the BAU, he was advised to reduce stressful working hours.
At that time, Emily Prentiss, who was the head of the group at the time, sent Reid to teach other agents to fill his free time.
After being given complete freedom, Reid got a taste for it and began to devote more time to this particular quiet aspect of the job.
Now that the reboot has been officially renewed for a second season, and it has been revealed that Matthew Gray Gubler was unable to join the cast due to a busy schedule rather than a refusal to continue being a part of BAU, there is growing hope among fans that Reid will eventually return to Criminal Minds.
And the most logical and reasonable explanation for his absence will be the teaching storyline.
Gubler is known to keep in touch with other Criminal Minds cast members. Actress AJ Cook who plays JJ commented on Matthew's absence from the reboot during her interview with Collider:
"I understand that he couldn't do it right now. We all would love for him to come back, at any moment, and he knows that. I think he will come back, at some point, to play.''
The prospects for Spencer Reed's return in Criminal Minds: Evolution seem more than encouraging.
Fans can only wait for the second season, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2023.
