If only it was so easy.

Summary:

  • Elsbeth is a CBS crime drama that follows the eccentric title character in her efforts to solve the most mysterious cases.
  • The show has been a success, although some viewers aren't too happy about the repetitive premise.
  • In the latest episode, many people noticed the subtle nod to the Netflix hit You, and now fans are rooting for a full-on cameo.

As a spin-off from such hits as The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Elsbeth was set up for a successful start. However, it's the charm of lead actress Carrie Preston and the twisted mysteries she solves that keep people coming back for more. Though repetitive due to its formula, the show is highly entertaining and has kept many fans coming back for more.

While many viewers are hoping and praying for the second season so the show can have more creative freedom and add some variety to the stories, others are happy with what they're getting. Especially since Elsbeth isn't afraid to reference a show or two to make things more interesting for the most attentive fans.

Who is Joe in Elsbeth?

Appearing in the 9th episode of the show's first season, Joe Dillion, portrayed by Arian Moayed, is a bartender who is dedicated to not only serving the best cocktails, but also justice to the customers who come in and vent about their struggles after having too many drinks.

Although Joe's character is played by one of the show's guest stars, as Moayed is best known as Stewy from HBO's hit series Succession, viewers of the show have recognized a different personality in him.

Joe's resemblance to his co-star of the same name on another show, You, has caught the eye of many viewers.

Both Arian Moayed and Penn Badgley, who portrays notorious stalker Joe Goldberg in the Netflix crime drama, sport similar facial hair and bear some resemblance to each other, leading fans to believe that Elsbeth's character was intentionally written and cast that way. Whether or not this is true will likely remain a rhetorical question.

Sure, referencing a TV show as popular as Netflix's You would have been a no-brainer for many writers, but CBS is far from a streamer, so the choice of show raises a lot of questions. Also, there are way too many handsome men with beards in the industry to not consider it a coincidence.

Either way, the idea of an Elsbeth and You crossover is too fun not to get on board. So if you're interested in seeing if this is the direction Elsbeth will take as we approach the first season finale, be sure to tune in to CBS on Thursday, May 23, so you don't miss a thing.
