Elsbeth Star Reveals a Subtle Easter Egg Nobody Noticed in Season 1
Not everything is about style when it’s time to catch a killer.
Elsbeth ’s first season officially wrapped it all up several days ago, but the show isn’t going anywhere and will bring its quirky detective back to screens already this fall.
Coming as some kind of The Good Wife ’s spinoff, Elsbeth follows the eponymous character whose perspicacious skills of an eagle-eyed detective eventually bring her from Chicago to New York Police Department.
While the series puts its focus primarily on Elsbeth’s ups and downs of an investigator within a new and sometimes even suspicious team, the viewers still found another compelling storyline which appears to be nothing else but the character’s clothing style that changes radically from one episode to another.
Well, it’s fair to say that it does seem like just a funny detail that only highlights Elsbeth’s vivid and versatile personality, though, according to the show’s actress, there was one change in the character’s style that nobody actually noticed.
Following Elsbeth’s season 1 finale, the show’s leading actress Carrie Preston reflected on her character’s choice for clothes and especially for bags. Throughout the whole first season, Elsbeth is indeed shown with all kinds of bags that she switches for, funny enough, every new case.
Preston revealed that she actually had no idea about what Elsbeth usually carried in her bags, though she surmised that “Elsbeth has a lot of I think crutches in there, things that she thinks she might need during the day to help her with her work, with her life. I mean, I think there's probably food in there. I think there's definitely books [and] files. Who knows if there's not an abacus in there? I mean, just things that she just thinks she could possibly need”.
Continuing the conversation about Elsbeth’s love for bags and all the variety of them that the crew had on set, the actress mentioned that she’d made a big change in her character’s style, but still nobody seems to have noticed. According to Preston, Elsbeth feels quite fine with her bags on a daily basis, but as soon as she has to catch a killer and arrest them, she doesn’t appear with any of her famous accessories anymore.
The actress then clarified that she’d made such a decision as she’d felt like Elsbeth wouldn’t need her bags at the crime scene. As Preston put it, “she's gotten everything out of them that she needs, and now it's just her words and her conviction against the criminal. And so that's become a sort of fun little thing that we've worked in”.
The actress’ idea actually does appear to be something revealing for Elsbeth’s personality as the character seemingly puts everything that could potentially distract her away when she needs to get back to work.
So far it’s not clear yet whether the same little detail will be kept in the upcoming season 2, but some fans will surely want to revisit the first season now that Elsbeth’s star pointed out to a very well hidden Easter egg.
