The actress begged the writers to remove the line from the script.

Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes wanted to make a show about strong women – one that she would enjoy.

She took on almost all of the project's executive duties, producing and writing most of the episodes. The main goal was to attract a female audience to the screen to admire the strong character.

The lead role in the series was given to Ellen Pompeo, for whom it became the most important of her career.

Pompeo became the magnificent Meredith Grey, playing her with dedication, showing a strong woman with weaknesses, with whom it is impossible not to empathize.

Over the years, the show was bound to spawn phrases that are now only associated with Grey's Anatomy and have become iconic among fans.

It became apparent that Ellen despised the already classic phrase "pick me, choose me, love me" to the point of trying to eliminate it:

"I fought that speech so hard. […] Some things that I was so against, and I was like, 'I can't beg a man on TV! This is so embarrassing.' And then it turns out to be one of the most famous scenes ever. In the scene, I'm crying, but I'm really crying because I have to beg a man on television."

It's fair to say that this phrase doesn't quite fit the independent and strong image that Meredith Grey has built over the years.

Meredith said that phrase to Derek. The love story of Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd was very popular with the audience.

Both have been on the edge of life and death several times, adopted a child, had a baby of their own, and started to think about the third heir. Everything was cut short by Shepherd's tragic death.

However, the writers delighted fans by bringing Derek back in season 17. In one episode, Meredith was found unconscious in the hospital parking lot by a colleague.

The next thing viewers saw was Dr. Grey walking along the beach and looking into her late husband's eyes.
