Edgar Wright’s 92%-Rated Hit That Took More Than 20 Years to Make Is Coming to Netflix
All good things must take time.
Though one of Edgar Wright's most popular films, 2010's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, recently experienced a second wave of popularity after the release of the animated series, with all the talent returning to their respective roles, there are many other great projects from the director that deserve just as much attention.
Luckily, with the reach that streaming services like Netflix provide, it's easy for any movie or TV show to come back with a bang. It's very likely that Baby Driver, which hits Netflix on April 1, will go through a similar process.
Is Baby Driver on Netflix?
Starring Ansel Elgort, Lily James and Kevin Spacey, Baby Driver is an upbeat and thrilling story of a getaway driver, Baby, who decides to change his ways and start living the clean life after meeting the woman of his dreams. Unfortunately, crime bosses aren't so used to letting their useful people go so easily.
When Baby Driver premiered in 2017, it was a commercial and critical success. With a budget of $34 million, the film grossed $226 million at the box office after its international release. With a 92% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is obviously praised for its great soundtrack as well as its witty dialog.
The success can be easily explained by the efforts of the production team as well as the fact that director Edgar Wright came up with the idea back in the mid-90s. So, technically, Baby Driver was the result of more than 2 decades of work.
Speaking to EW about the long journey that Baby Driver made from starting as an idea in the director's head back in 1995, Edgar Wright explained what exactly have made the final cut from what he originally thought of:
“I didn’t have the character yet, but the structure of the car chase and the bank robbery at the start of the movie is extremely similar to what I came up with 22 years ago,” he explained.
Now, 7 more years after the film's theatrical premiere and the runaway success that followed, Baby Driver is about to come to an even wider audience on Netflix.
