Donald Glover's Cameo In Across The Spider-Verse Was a Last-Minute Decision
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is packed with a bunch of hidden details, Easter eggs and cameos, but this one was special.
At some point, Miles Morales and other heroes swing by the Spider Society HQ in New York from an alternate Earth. Miles bumps into some supervillains who got caught. One of them is the Prowler, or Aaron Davis, played by Donald Glover.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, co-director Kemp Powers spilled the beans on Glover's surprising cameo. Turns out, they shot his scene on April 5, a mere two months before the movie hit the big screens. Powers explained that this kind of thing happens spontaneously.
However, Glover's cameo wasn’t just an exciting wow moment but also a moment that got fans seriously confused.
Glover previously portrayed Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It got fans really curious. Does it mean the Spider-Verse is linked to the MCU?
Fans didn’t hesitate to come up with wild theories. One intriguing theory suggests that Dr. Strange has something to do with it.
In No Way Home, Strange transported Spider-Men and their villains to the respective universes, plus Tom Hardy ’s Venom and Michael Keaton's Vulture (shown in Morbius ).
It seems that Vulture ended up in the wrong universe even though he was from Holland Spidey's universe. The theory suggests that the same happened to Glover’s Prowler, and he was later captured by some of the Spider-People from Across the Spider-Verse.
Well, we haven’t seen the Prowler in the MCU yet, so it’s hard to say for sure.
As we know, the same person from different universes may look either exactly the same (for example, Doctor Strange ) or totally different (Spider-Man). It might imply that Glover’s Prowler in Across The Spider-Verse isn’t necessarily from the MCU but from some other universe.
Even though Glover’s appearance isn’t the only evidence implying that Spider-Verse and the MCU are linked together, we should also remember that Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man, and a potential crossover is only possible if two studios come to an agreement.
Even Tom Holland is hoping that Miles makes his debut in the MCU. So, fingers crossed that everything falls into place and we finally get to see Miles in a live-action version.
