Don't Get Mad at Me, but The Simpsons Has to End After Season 36
There’s no coming back from what the show has become.
One of the most popular animated series of all time is definitely The Simpsons. The show premiered in 1989 and is still on air. Fans of the series (with me as their leader) are now waiting for season 36 to be released sometime in fall this year. It is scheduled to air during the 2024-25 TV season.
However, there is no more information about the show’s future after that, which means the era of The Simpsons might be coming to an end. And frankly, I think it’s not that bad. Don’t get me wrong, I love the show, but still there's no denying that it’s becoming slightly worse with every new episode.
The downhill in the writing becomes noticeable after season 8 of the show. If before every episode was full of jokes that were actually funny and there wasn’t anything that made you embarrassed to watch it, the following seasons all were somehow cringeworthy. And not in a good way it was before.
Still, the fandom was there for their favorite show and the ratings were high, which probably made the showrunners continue with the series. But it was impossible to ignore that the stories were getting boring and there seemed to be nothing left of the clever humor.
But that's not the only reason why the creators should end the show after season 36. For fans of numbers, and I consider myself one of them, season 36 will make The Simpsons Movie the midpoint of the series. You've got to agree, there's something satisfying about seeing the numbers come together? And one more thing…
“Season 36 would mark the 800th episode (if the season is slightly extended). 800 episodes is an incredible achievement and it would not hurt at all to call it quits after such a large number. I also would love it if it ended on a round number. It would also make season 1-18 the first half, not only in terms of seasons, but also episodes,” Redditor 5Garbanzobeans said.
And one more thing: it would be devastating if even one of the voice actors passed away after being with us for more than 30 years... That's why it's so important to say goodbye at the right time to protect the legacy of the show.
