Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper, was particularly beloved by fans when she accompanied Eccleston and Tennant's doctors, so the recent news that Yasmin Finney got the namesake role is a bit concerning.

After Jodie Whittaker 's departure from the series and the casting of Ncuti Gatwa as the 14th Doctor, fans are eager to see where the franchise will go next. So, the announcement of a special anniversary episode with the return of David Tenant as the 10th Doctor was met with tremendous support from fandom. But will his beloved companion Rose return in her former guise, or will she be recast as Yasmin Finney?

The thing is, Finney has been cast as a character named "Rose," and the last name is mysteriously not mentioned. Perhaps showrunner Russell T. Davis doesn't want to immediately disappoint fans of the show, or maybe he's just keeping it a secret to surprise them when the special airs in 2023. In a press release announcing the casting call, Davis addressed the fans in a very ominous way.

"Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You'll find out in 2023, but it's an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set," Davies wrote.

'Heartstopper ' fans are beyond thrilled that Finney has joined such a huge BBC property, but are a little concerned that her commitment to 'Doctor Who' might prevent her from starring in the second season of the LGBTQ+ Netflix series, should it be greenlit.
