Is Law & Order going to be next to follow?

Summary:

  • Dick Wolf is a film and television producer best known for his work on NBC's Law & Order and the One Chicago franchise.
  • Wolf is set to produce two crime docuseries for Netflix, Homicide: New York and Homicide: Los Angeles.
  • Since this will be the producer's first work for Netflix, fans are wondering if the partnership could also bring some procedurals to the streamer.

If there's one thing Netflix still lacks, it's procedurals. The streamer, now known for mercilessly killing off its shows early and not even allowing them to fully bloom, would not be able to pull off a long-running show like every procedural aspires to be. Is it even a medical or police drama if it doesn't last over a decade?

While it's hard to imagine Netflix keeping a show like this alive and well and not just canceling it at the first minor inconvenience, the streamer is interested in dipping its toes into the unknown. With its first-ever medical procedural, Pulse, now greenlit for production, Netflix could be opening the door to opportunities in other industries.

And when it comes to procedurals, who better to work with than the man behind some of network TV's longest and most successful franchises? Dick Wolf's collaboration with Netflix wasn't on anyone's 2024 bingo cards, but its prospects are the most intriguing.

What Dick Wolf’s Netflix Show Is About?

In partnership with Alfred Street Industries, Dick Wolf will produce two docu-series, both part of the same industry. Homicide: New York, which will feature 5 stand-alone murder cases in each episode, will be released first, while Homicide: Los Angeles will follow closely with the same structure and premise.

“Homicide, a new docuseries that illuminates the stories of notorious murder cases as told by the people who know them best: the detectives and prosecutors who cracked them,” the description reads.

The East Coast version of the show will premiere on March 20th, and the West Coast version will be released just 3 days later. This will give fans of the genre a full week of chilling and mind-bending content from the guru of crime series.

With Netflix's sudden interest in the procedural genre, viewers have to wonder if the partnership will continue if the Homicide series proves to be successful. With a medical procedural already under its belt, the streaming platform is almost begging for a Law & Order-esque series to balance out the genres.

However, as of now, there is no information on whether Wolf's collaboration with Netflix was a one-time deal or something to look forward to in the future.

Be sure to tune in to Netflix to stream both Homicide series starting March 20, and keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates.
