Devastating Reason One Game of Thrones Star Had to Apologize to Peter Dinklage on Set
While the Game of Thrones actors generally had great relationships with each other, this star couldn’t stop apologizing to Peter Dinklage for being rude to him.
Right, Game of Thrones used to be the biggest and most popular show in the world back when it was on air. It claimed the titles of the most anticipated, most pirated, most leaked, and many other “mosts” — but while it has always been genuinely loved by millions of people, it clearly had more than enough issues.
One of the most controversial topics about Game of Thrones used to be the depiction of medieval stereotypes in certain ways. Misogyny, ableism, homophobia, and other things we consider disgusting today are the absolute norm in the world of Game of Thrones, and most characters behave accordingly all the time.
But the majority of viewers can differentiate between fiction and reality, it appears, as the show didn’t have nearly as many controversies as its content suggested. However, one issue was tied so closely to the real world that it was impossible to ignore both for the audience and (especially!) for the actors who starred in the series.
Tywin Lannister famously hated and continuously humiliated his son Tyrion for being a dwarf. Why is this awful? Because Peter Dinklage, the actor behind Tyrion, had to listen to all the insults for the condition he has in real life! And Charles Dance, the Tywin actor, was feeling absolutely horrible for saying all those things to his co-star.
“I spend a lot of my time with Peter Dinklage and he’s the most adorable man, a wonderful actor. After all those scenes, I apologize to him every time. I have to treat him like sh*t. You’ve only seen a little snippet of the awfulness,” Dance told NME.
We can’t help but feel sorry for both the actors. Peter Dinklage never deserved to hear all those terrible things, and Charles Dance had to force himself to say them to the man he genuinely liked… The show turned out phenomenal, and Dance and Dinklage were largely the reason for that, but this whole situation was still really ugly.
