The character’s romantic life finally didn’t take years to become something official.

Jessica Knight’s future as an NCIS Special Agent is still a major mystery to be unveiled in the show’s upcoming season 22, but her storyline has already set yet another milestone for the long-standing CBS franchise.

Now having secured a position of her dream on the other side of the country, Knight is facing another big dilemma regarding her relationship with NCIS Chief Medical Examiner Jimmy Palmer which soon might come to its end should Jessica indeed opt for her career rather than personal happiness.

Whatever future holds for the beloved couple in season 22, Jessica and Jimmy’s story already appears to be a huge progress for the franchise that has always been pretty unhurried when it comes to its characters’ romantic lives.

Having met each other for the first time back in season 18, Jimmy and Jessica seemed nothing more than just colleagues and good friends, but soon things changed and the characters became an item when they started dating by the end of season 19.

Though initially neither of them wanted to make their romance public, the breaking news still reached the rest of NCIS team members when Jimmy made a sweet declaration of love for Jessica in other Special Agents’ presence.

Despite the uncertain status of their relationship now that Jessica Knight is set to be constantly apart from Jimmy, their deep feelings for each other and the public recognition of their romance came as something completely new for NCIS’ long-standing run.

Though the show has never in fact been about love or sensitivity as a whole, it still featured several romantic links between its characters, with Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David being one of the most striking examples.

However, what makes Jessica and Jimmy’s relationship completely different from Tony and Ziva’s story is that the former’s romance had a stable, not hurried and pretty much normal development that wasn’t affected by Jessica and Jimmy’s desire to keep their relationship a top secret.

For Tony and Ziva, however, it took nearly 15 years of hiding from everyone else or even having some uncertainty regarding their future together to eventually become an official couple that had no intention of concealing their feelings for each other.

Jessica and Jimmy’s romance thus appears to be a rare storyline to ever receive a proper development regarding the characters’ healthy relationships and serious take on their romance, something that many fans may be truly fearing to lose in case Jessica decides to call it quits with Jimmy.

The characters’ future will be revealed in NCIS season 22, which is set to arrive at CBS this fall.
