Dean is Basically the Bad Guy in The Winchesters, Fan Theory Says
But don't worry, it looks like he's trying to clean up his mess.
The Winchesters has been pretty bold with changing the Supernatural canon so far, and fans think they know why after watching episode 8 of the prequel.
According to a fan theory shared on Reddit, everything that went wrong with the timeline of Dean and Sam's parents was the fault of Dean, who tried to fix things but actually made them worse.
"He [Dean] altered his timeline by giving John that letter in an attempt to give his dad closure (because as far as I'm aware, John never knew what happened to Henry in SPN canon). In doing so he's altered his timeline, made it break, and has allowed a portal to open for [the Akrida] to slip through and invade Earth. Hence why they're in the 70s," Redditor GeekSheek89 suggested.
The theory also proposes that Dean may have done it to change his and Sam's future and prevent Chuck from escalating things in the original series.
"I think this is why Dean was accidentally photographed. He has come back once again to stop [the Akrida] and clean up the mess he made," the theory author concluded.
In episode 8, Dean is pictured in a photo that his young father, John, shows to Mary. He reveals that it was Dean who gave him the letter that led him to the hunt, making fans believe that Dean is alive and well in the prequel after being killed in the Supernatural finale.
Expect Even More Supernatural Cameos In The Upcoming Winchesters Episodes
However, Dean's attempts to fix things basically make him a villain in The Winchesters' timeline, according to the fan. If the theory is true, then Dean's actions might as well render Supernatural non-canon, since the future will change if he doesn't clean up the mess.
The next episode of The Winchesters will premiere on January 31st on The CW.
