DCU Behind the Scenes Drama Continues With Dwayne Johnson's Social Media Move
So, no Black Adam sequel?..
In what appears to a big blow to how the hierarchy of power in the DC universe was supposed to change, Dwayne Johnson has unfollowed the Instagram accounts of the Black Adam movie and Warner Bros. Discovery.
These days, such a move amounts to a very public divorce announcement; and it looks like the chances of Black Adam ever getting a sequel are getting bleaker with each passing day. Now that Johnson appears to be distancing himself from the studio amid the ongoing shake-up, fans are sensing big drama coming.
"I sincerely hope he comes out and spills EVERYTHING. The actual truth about Gunn's treatment of them that no one else would have the balls to let out," Twitter user Clippy4Clippy said.
Earlier, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that a Black Adam sequel was "unlikely" at Warner Bros. as DC Studios is going through major changes induced by its new leaders, James Gunn and Peter Safran. The studio has not officially commented on the Black Adam future, but it looks like The Rock had his own silent comment.
Black Adam grossed a modest $389 million worldwide, hardly making any profit. Even the Henry Cavill cameo as Superman did not help; moreover, despite Johnson's big ambition to change the hierarchy of power in DC universe, Cavill's Superman is now officially out. Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot cameos were also cut from The Flash, and everyone says that Ezra Miller-led movie will be the film that will finally bury the remnants of the Snyderverse and be the setting for a reboot of the universe under Gunn's leadership.
Johnson seemed to be quite passionate about Black Adam, but now that he has unfollowed its Instagram account, people started to think that he will never acknowledge the movie once again.
"Imagine being attached to a project for almost 20 years just to have it end like this..." Twitter user ivyapologist85 noted.
As of now, all bridges seem to be burnt by Gunn and Safran as they head for the new DCU they envisioned. Time will tell just how well that plays out.
