Just imagine what they could do with such immense power on their side.

If there is one name that comes to the majority of the audience's minds in connection to MCU, that's Robert Downey Jr.

By portraying Tony Stark, also known as the Iron Man, he was the one to guide the universe to its prime, with millions of dollars at the box office after premieres, and an army of dedicated fans.

Although the actor officially finished his run as Iron Man back in 2019, when Tony Stark died, the memory is still fresh, and the connection is still strong.

Fans are still not over his performance, and many believe that Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man is the top-notch superhero not one on-screen character could ever top.

But what if everything could be reversed, and the DCEU got their hands on the actor first? It might be hard to imagine today, but that was a very real possibility back in the day, before Downey Jr got cast by Marvel Studios.

Back in late 1980's when Tim Burton started the pre-production for his own take on the story of Batman, Robert Downey Jr was one of the most wanted candidates to take the role.

He was reported to be in the director's personal shortlist, along with Michael Keaton and Bill Murray.

With Michael Keaton, of course, ending up taking the role, Robert Downey Jr refused his first opportunity to play young and ambitious billionaire Bruce Wayne with a superhero alter ego.

After seeing the actor reprise the role of Tony Stark for so many years, it's not hard to imagine why Tim Burton was convinced the actor would fit the part.

Luckily for everyone, both Tim Burton's Batman and Iron Man were successful and gathered a whole bunch of fans around them.

The dynamic duo of Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as Joker was praised by critics for the chemistry, and Robert Downey Jr found his success in a more humorous and lighthearted Marvel setting.

If you want to rewatch all the Iron Man movies throughout the years, you can stream them in order on Disney Plus.
