David Tennant Was Surprisingly Unimpressed With His Doctor Who Return
You would think that the actor would be absolutely thrilled to be returning to one of his most iconic roles, but surprise, surprise.
For Doctor Who fans, the news of David Tennant coming back as the Tenth Doctor in the BBC show's upcoming 60th anniversary was absolutely mind-blowing. Like the Tenth Doctor himself, many fans didn't want him to go: and here he comes in all his glory, set to return to our screens in November.
Surely, David Tennant, who portrayed the iconic Time Lord, must be just as thrilled as the fans?
Well, it looks like his return was not really much of a surprise for him. At least that's what he told ComicBook.com, noting that his Good Omens season 2 comeback was much more unexpected for him than the return to Doctor Who.
"In some ways there's a precedent for returning to Doctor Who," Tennant said. "People have done it over the 60 years of the show. I was probably quite surprised that it ended up being the type of return to Doctor Who that it is, but I can't talk too much about that clearly, because that's all still to come."
Good Omens, in its turn, was "never a franchise" in the first place, Tennant went on to note. Which is why he was a lot more surprised to learn that the Neil Gaiman-produced series needs him back as the ginger demon Crowley.
However, the surprise did not last long.
"It was not an option to do more. It was never a notion when we first talked about it, so it sort of crept up on us. So it was less of a surprise and more of a slightly slow dawning realization that actually we were going to get to go back and see what happened to Aziraphale and Crowley next. But then when we were back on set, it felt like the most natural thing," the actor explained.
It doesn't mean that Tennant loves Good Omens more than Doctor Who, of course. However, it's clear that the Tenth Doctor wasn't too startled when the iconic BBC show finally reached out to him for yet another TARDIS ride.
Good Omens season 2 is currently available for streaming on Prime Video, while the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who is expected to air on BBC in November.
