David Tennant Set to Return in 'Doctor Who' 60th Anniversary Special
An undisputed icon of sci-fi television, 'Doctor Who' is entering its fourteenth season with a new star, but how can we possibly forget the old cavalry?
The 60th anniversary of 'Doctor Who ' is going to be a true celebration for old-school die-hard fans, as David Tennant – everyone's beloved Tenth Doctor – is set to return alongside Catherine Tate's Donna Noble, Gizmodo revealed.
The special episode will mark six decades of 'Doctor Who' – the iconic TV series launched back in 1963. Ahead of the anniversary episode, the series is set to welcome its new Time Lord, portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa, who will take over the Tardis following the departure of Jodie Whittaker 's Doctor in the season 13 finale.
Given just how many events 'Doctor Who' has scheduled for the coming years, showrunner Russell T. Davies seems to be in the mood for teasing fans.
"It looks impossible – first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening? Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it's going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime," he said in a press release.
Tenant had returned to the Tardis before, when he reprised a role of the Time Lord in 2013, in the special episode marking the show's 50th anniversary. Ten years later, he is all in for doing it again.
The season 13 finale is set to air in late 2022, with no certain date scheduled yet. The anniversary episode follows next year.
