Well, it looks like in season 3, things will change — at least that's what Joe Locke's most recent update has us thinking.
Locke, who portrays Charlie in the series, has been pretty busy with other projects like his Sweeney Todd Broadway debut and the Agatha Harkness upcoming series. However, speaking with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on his podcast Dinner's on Me, Locke has teased fans with a pretty specific update on the upcoming new season of Heartstopper.
First of all, after dedicating an entire second season to Kit Connor's Nick, season 3 will focus more on Charlie and his journey. According to Locke, Charlie's eating disorder will become the "main focus of the [new] season."

The Charlie star noted how the first half of the season will be "way darker" than Heartstopper usually was, but assured that the vibe of the show will not be going anywhere. In fact, the second half of the season veers into a very different territory.
"So the first half of the season, I'd say, is darker, the second half of the season is horny," said Locke.
Feel-good vibes are great, but it looks like Heartstopper fans were waiting exactly for dark and horny material. Some people have already joked how "we are basically getting a British Euphoria season 3," while others are cautious about how "dark" may mean "killing off some characters."
