If you think Andrew Garfield will be remembered as "the third greatest Spider-Man of all time," having secured his legacy, you are just like Charlie Cox.

At GQ's 25th Man of the Year gathering last week, the Daredevil actor took a dig at his old pal Garfield, joking that the Peter 3 actor seems to have limitless talent as he recalled a recent conversation with a friend.

"Mr. Andrew Garfield... I said 'it's really annoying, is there nothing he can't do?'," Cox joked.

There was no stopping Cox at the GQ ceremony as he continued his trolling crusade against Garfield, whom he called "one of, if not the greatest actor of our generation" who had "another disgustingly good year." He quoted his friend who said Garfield was also not the best singer and had failed an audition for a drama school.

"You can imagine how thrilled we were when we found out he had committed himself to a project that couldn't possibly succeed. The All-Singing, All-Dancing Tick, Tick... Boom!"

Andrew Garfield took on the role of the wall-crawling superhero in the first Amazing Spider-Man movie in 2012, when he was just 26 years old.

It did well at the box office, but some fans were upset that Garfield's Peter Parker was a bit weak, even though he made a perfect Spider-Man. Two years later, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a total flop that failed at the box office and became an easy target for film critics and fans of the Spider-Man franchise.

Perhaps it was too much for Garfield.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 never happened, but Garfield did appear in the recent Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed more than $1.9 billion during the pandemic shutdown.

There we got three Spider-Men - Tom Holland as Peter 1 is joined by Andrew Garfield as Peter 3 and Toby Maguire who is Peter 2. All the Spider-Men have been summoned from across the multiverse to help Peter 1 fight all kinds of villains.

Since the inception of the Spider-Man franchise, fans have crossed swords over who is the best Spider-Man ever, and Garfield could have become the worst if not for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was well-received and restored his reputation. And some fans of the series on Reddit believe that the latest installment may have been intended to end all "best Spider-Man ever" contests.

Many commenters share the idea that the scene where Tobey Maguire 's Spider-Man tells Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man that he is amazing is valuable because most fans believe that Tobey Maguire is the best. It is not fair to blame Garfield because it was not his fault, but rather a story or writing problem.

Charlie Cox 's jokes aside, Garfield is back in the Spider-Man pantheon and as good as ever. The last Spider-Man movie proved that three is better than one. And according to some reports, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Men may make cameo appearances in the upcoming animated movie, Across the Spider-Verse.
