Daniel Radcliffe Always Knew Harry Potter Would Follow the Steps of Sherlock Holmes
What does the original Harry Potter think about the upcoming TV series reboot? Apparently, quite a lot — and he envisions an even greater future for the franchise.
The news about HBO’s upcoming reboot of Harry Potter has sparked massive interest from audiences all around the world which is fairly predictable when one of the most popular franchises in history gets a TV series. But the Potterheads are pretty divided opinion-wise when it comes to whether it’s a good idea or not.
Some fans are genuinely excited and welcome the new show as the opportunity to get a more well-rounded Harry Potter experience and pass it on to the new generations.
Others are not expecting much and are even terrified that HBO’s series will butcher the legacy of the original books and movies for good.
Both sides have been debating online non-stop ever since the announcement of the new show, but they’re all speaking from the audience’s point of view.
What many people don’t consider is that the actors from the original movies might be feeling considering how their roles in Harry Potter defined and changed their entire lives.
Thankfully, Daniel Radcliffe, the first Harry Potter actor himself, recently addressed this issue on Deadline’s The Actor's Side show. Apparently, Dan has been expecting projects like this for a long time now and is not surprised at all… And yes, it felt incredibly weird to type out “the first Harry Potter actor,” in case you were wondering.
"I think Harry Potter was always destined to become like Sherlock Holmes. Or like the people who saw Basil Rathbone play Sherlock Holmes would have been like, ‘No one else can ever do this.’ Well, you know, they’re gonna though. So it’ll get passed on to someone else,” said Radcliffe.
Dan’s been always expecting a brand-new movie or show based on the universe that changed his childhood, and hearing this news got him thinking.
The actor recalled how Harry Potter changed his life back when he was a kid and realized: very soon, this exact thing will happen to another child.
"The weird thought I have now is there’s probably an eight-year-old kid out there somewhere whose life is going to change in a couple of years. My brain does go there... But I think the films continuing, or the series, in this case, was pretty inevitable," explained the actor.
Apparently, there’s no need to worry about how the original actors are handling the news — at least, this particular actor. For Daniel Radcliffe, the reboot has always seemed like the only way, and he’s not surprised whatsoever.
