Cringy Riverdale Sound Effects Make Fans Turn The Volume Down

As mixed as the general public's feelings about Riverdale may be, loyal fans will always stand up for it.

However, even those viewers who have watched the show multiple times are willing to admit one rather annoying fact.

Riverdale's sound design is, at times, simply unbearable.

That's not the show's biggest problem. It's much harder for viewers to put up with plot holes, illogical character decisions, and unfinished storylines than it is with a few sounds that you might not even notice on your first viewing.

However, if you decide to re-watch Riverdale from the beginning, get ready to hear a lot more than you need to.

Two sounds that are particularly prominent in the audience's hearing are the "boom" sound and the "hair swoosh," which are used in every episode, sometimes not even once.

It's funny when you think about it, but once you hear them, it's impossible not to notice them later. While some fans take it lightly and laugh every time they appear, others can't help but get annoyed.

After all, too many special effects do the opposite of what they're supposed to do: they distract from what's happening on screen.

Not only have fans noticed this, but so have the actors. For example, Madelaine Petsch, who plays Cheryl Blossom on the show, surprised her fans while they were watching the Heathers musical episode Chapter Fifty-One: Big Fun.

One of the questions she asked was if they noticed the noise the sound design team added to her hair flip. And, well, it turns out everyone did.

Some viewers with more sensitive hearing were so unable to concentrate on what was happening that they were forced to leave the show over time.

Fans note that the problem was less noticeable at the beginning of the series, but by season 4, it had fully manifested itself.
