Time will pass but their characters will never fail to creep the hell out of viewers.

The horror genre has a unique talent for leaving unforgettable impressions, and it's the portrayal of eerie characters, often thanks to the inclusion of creepy child actors who can send shivers down your spine, that sticks with viewers the most.

From the recent cult horror Hereditary to old guard classics like The Shining, here are the creepy kids of horror and what they are doing after their breakout roles.

Milly Shapiro (Hereditary)

Milly Shapiro's unforgettable performance in Ari Aster's disturbing psychological supernatural horror as Charlie Graham, the troubled and unsettling young girl with a penchant for making eerie clicking noises, marked her as a rising star in the horror genre.

Shapiro's debut was met with critical acclaim, and she has since continued to pursue her passion for acting, starring in shows such as Splitting Up Together and the animated series JJ Villard's Fairy Tales. Aside from her on-screen achievements, she has also ventured into the world of music, having previously been a part of the band AFTERxCLASS.

In 2019, Milly also stepped into the world of drag, making a guest appearance as a judge on the drag series The Boulet Brothers' Dragula, demonstrating her diverse interests in the entertainment industry.

Daveigh Chase (The Ring)

Daveigh Chase terrified audiences as the vengeful spirit Samara Morgan in The Ring, the Western adaptation of Sadako Yamamura, the original character from Koji Suzuki's novel and Ringu franchise. Her portrayal of the sinister girl with long, black, wet hair and a penchant for crawling out of TV screens left an indelible mark on the horror genre.

Today, Daveigh is almost unrecognizable without her signature long black hair. Her career continued to evolve as she starred in the series Big Love and lent her voice to Disney 's Lilo & Stitch. However, while her acting journey was promising, she faced a difficult time with multiple arrests in 2017 and 2018, including issues related to drug possession.

Lisa and Louise Burns (The Shining)

Lisa and Louise Burns made their first attempt at acting with a role in an episode of the 1970s television series Kids, but it was their unforgettable portrayal of the perfectly terrifying young ghost girls in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining that cemented their names in the history books of horror.

While their roles in the 1980 film were relatively brief, the image of the Grady twins in the hallway of the Overlook Hotel has remained in popular culture since the film's premiere.

After their experiences in The Shining, the Burns twins went their separate ways: Lisa pursued a college education in literature, while Louise embarked on a career as a microbiologist. Despite their different career choices, the bond between sisters remains as strong as ever.

Shahadi Wright Joseph (Us)

Shahadi Wright Joseph showcased her incredible talent in Jordan Peele's elevated horror, portraying Zora and her character's disturbing doppelganger, Umbrae. Following her haunting role in 2019's Us, Shahadi Wright continued to make her mark in the entertainment industry as the actress lent her voice to the character of Young Nala in Disney's remake of The Lion King.

Shahadi also starred in Zack Whedon's drama Come Find Me and the Amazon Prime Video horror series Them, where she continued to showcase her talent and versatility in the world of horror and beyond.

Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan)

At the tender age of ten, Isabelle Fuhrman was catapulted from relative obscurity into the spotlight when she took on the role of the malevolent title character Esther in Orphan. Her performance was nothing short of chilling and solidified her as a rising star in the world of horror.

Since her breakout role, Fuhrman's career has continued to flourish as the actress took on the role of Clove in The Hunger Games and appeared in notable projects such as Masters of Sex.

Fuhrman also graced the big screen in 2021's Escape Room 2 and last year's sequel to her breakout role, Orphan: First Kill. Fuhrman has taken on a variety of roles in films and television shows, proving that her talent goes far beyond playing a creepy woman dressed like a child.

Jodelle Ferland (Case 39)

Jodelle Ferland was indeed the face of the horror genre back in 2000 and her portrayal of a seemingly perfect and innocent child, Lilith Sullivan, under the care of a dedicated social worker, played by Renée Zellweger, left audiences on the edge of their seats.

Jodelle's ability to embody the unsettling nature of the character had been proven three years earlier after her chilling performance in 2006's Silent Hill, and Case 39 didn't fail to leave the same impression on viewers.

Following her impressive debut, Ferland has continued to build a career in horror and dark drama. Her appearances in films such as The Twilight Saga and The Cabin in the Woods have solidified her as a prominent figure in the genre, demonstrating her versatility as an actress and her commitment to compelling storytelling.
