In an alternate universe, kids are watching this version of SpongeBob.

Picture this: the vibrant and sunny Bikini Bottom is stripped of its cheeriness and transformed into a moody, atmospheric world reminiscent of the dark fantasy films.

If you're having a hard time picturing this, no worries. Now AI can create its own versions of popular shows and movies, and a YouTube shared a video where they used AI to imagine what SpongeBob would be like if it came out in the 80s as a dark fantasy movie.

The video features all the main characters of the beloved animated TV show. To be honest, this version of SpongeBob provokes multiple feelings at the same time: it’s intriguing, hilarious but at the same time horrifying.

Accompanied by an evil soundtrack, the video introduces SpongeBob who is now Squarehelm “Krusty Krusader,” Lord Patrick “The Ruthless,” Kaptain Krabs, Sandy, Squidward, and some others.

Most of the characters look like their souls are haunted by some tragic past…or present. Surprisingly, Sandy looks most “normal” even though she is a squirrel in an astronaut suit.

We also get to see some of the well-recognizable places: Pineapple Keep (SpongeBob’s house), Forgotten Star Outpost (which is supposed to be Patrick’s rock), Condemned Krusty Krabs, and Bucket Lair.

While we only get a glimpse on the characters and places, it's interesting to speculate on what kind of story it would be.

Just imagine a plot like this: Squarehelm stumbles upon an ancient prophecy that warns of a super wicked evil about to wreck Bikini Bottom. With his loyal friends, Squarehelm sets off on a dangerous mission to gather legendary artifacts that can kick this evil's butt.

On their wild journey, they would come across terrifying monsters, sneaky witches, and magical relics. As the story goes on, we would see the characters growing and dealing with their own personal struggles. What a crazy movie it would be.

While the idea of an 80s dark fantasy version of SpongeBob SquarePants might sound unconventional, there is hardly anyone who wouldn’t love to see this rendition of the beloved animated character.
