Redditers love a good theory debate- and some of them can be pretty wild. But this theory on succession looks like it might just be crazy enough to come true.

With HBO confirming the show will end with season 4, many fans are speculating about whether it really will be finishing – or just taking a new direction.

And one has suggested that, while Succession will technically end with the season 4 finale, there'll be a new show to follow.

The theory goes that season 4 will end with a successor being announced – and that the sequel will be a new show called Successor.

And why not? It seems a perfectly plausible scenario given the popularity of the show. And, let's face it, HBO loves a good cash cow.

If true, the rumours could spark an even wider debate about an emerging new franchise. After all, even those not chosen as the successor will have a post-season 4 story to tell.

And there is also the delicious prospect of a prequel that details the story behind Waystar RoyCo and the rise of Logan Roy.

'Predecessor' as the (currently completely made up) prequel show has been named by one user, has garnered a lot of support from fans of the show.

And in a world in which spin-offs are all the rage, HBO execs might do well to take note of this particular thread that shows a clear demand for it.

Naturally, there are also a few sceptics out there who want to see the show "go out on top". As one fan wrote, "for every Better Call Saul, there are a dozen Joeys".

But for the most part, the consensus seems to be that fans want more of what they like. And they want to explore how Logan got to where he did both personally and professionally.

And those in favour of Succession spin-offs are quick to point out that any prequel or sequel will not necessarily be bad.

Ultimately, it's a decision for the network execs to take. Of course, they'll want to balance maintaining the reputation of the show with the income any new concepts might bring in.

But 4 seasons seems a short shelf life for any franchise in the era of binge-watching and streaming. So, it would seem odd to believe the idea of some kind of spin-off hasn't already been discussed.

And while this particular theory sounds just a bit crazy, it might not be too far from the truth.
