Constantine Reboot Show Still Alive After Keanu Reeves Sequel Announcement
J.J. Abrams' Constantine show reboot for HBO Max, said to be part of Abrams' Justice League Dark universe, had been plagued with problems since inception.
Its development had been slow since announcement in early 2021. Even the actor who was in talks to star as Constantine ( Sope Dirisu) was not announced until this April. And it suffered a major setback in September when it was announced that Keanu Reeves ' Constantine 2 was finally getting off the ground, with original director Francis Lawrence returning to work on it. The series reboot found itself in danger of being scrapped and replaced by the film project. Certainly, it quickly became clear that the reboot no longer has a home at HBO Max.
However, those who wanted to see the Constantine show reboot should not lose hope yet. The Constantine series appears to be still alive and moving forward, though not completely out of the woods yet. Sources in the most recent report from The Hollywood Reporter indicate that though Abrams' works exploring the supernatural corners of the DC Comics universe, including the Zatanna movie, produced by him, and, of course, the Constantine reboot, were scrapped from HBO Max, they are now being shopped to other streamers.
Given that WB, the owner of DC Comics, has a solid relationship with Netflix regarding above-mentioned supernatural corners of the DC universe, as amply evidenced by Netflix' The Sandman and Lucifer series, it is quite possible that Netflix could pick up J.J. Abrams' Constantine reboot as well. Of course, nothing had been settled yet, but the fanbase now can hold not-unreasonable hopes to see two Constantines on screen instead of one.
And, as we've mentioned Netflix' The Sandman – it features yet another version of the character with Coleman's Johanna Constantine, and it is rumored that she might even get her own spinoff. If J.J. Abrams' Constantine show is still alive and in the works, fans of the occult detective (originally created by Alan Moore for DC comics) can expect to see no less than three versions of their favorite character on screen in the near future – a pretty good prospect, if you ask me.
