A Connection Between 'Stranger Things' And This Stephen King Novel Might Tease the Show's Ending
It's no secret that the creators of 'Stranger Things' were heavily influenced by the works of Stephen King during the development of their hit Netflix show, so it's plausible to assume that one of King's darkest novels may hint at the show's upcoming finale.
The book is curiously titled 'Needful Things', harshly revealing the connection between the Duffer brothers' creation and the master of horror. At the center of King's novel is a close-knit rural community facing a resurgence of unspeakable evil. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Although King's book is far more violent and depressing than the Netflix family-friendly series, some commonalities are easy to spot, including the familiar pattern of initially friendly people (Dr. Brenner, anyone?) turning out to be evil.
'Needful Things' ended on a very depressing note: most members of the community sacrificed themselves to temporarily keep evil from spilling out into the world. The Netflix show obviously can't replicate a twist like that, but the idea behind it is pretty interesting – the young mystery buffs certainly can't defeat the whole Upside-Down once and for all, but they can at least seal it for a while in the series finale, allowing the Duffers to return to the story if they decide to revisit it later and develop some sequels.
'Stranger Things ' season 4 arrives on Netflix on May 27, 2022.
