Concerning Disney Update Hints The End Is Nigh For Many Marvel & Star Wars Shows
A recent statement from the company's CEO revealed that Disney intends to significantly cut back on Star Wars and Marvel content, especially TV series.
Over the past few years, Disney has released an astounding amount of TV series that have become an important part of their franchises.
Starting with the release of WandaVision in 2021, the MCU has been enriched with a total of eight live-action TV series at this point.
Moreover, after the success of The Mandalorian in 2019, the majority of Star Wars content comes from TV shows, as no full-length films have been released since the arrival of Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker in the same year.
However, it seems that the constant stream of Disney TV content may soon come to an end, or at least be significantly reduced.
In a recent interview with CNBC, Bob Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, revealed that they intend to cut back on Marvel and Star Wars content, specifically pointing out the TV projects.
This decision comes from the fact that the aforementioned franchises have been financially underperforming and are apparently no longer worth the expense.
Iger said that it will allow Disney to "focus" and do a "cost containment initiative" by reducing the amount of content and spending less on it.
He also pointed out that after Marvel suddenly jumped into the TV industry without having a significant presence in the business before, it "diluted focus and attention."
Fans have some very polarized opinions about this announcement, with some believing that such a change is a good sign, as they feel that TV shows have destroyed the MCU, turning it into a complete mess, and oversaturated Star Wars, sucking the magic out of it.
Others, however, say that without the TV shows, Star Wars would have been just another dusty franchise, because with no movies and barely any video games, the shows were the only thing keeping it afloat.
There are also those who see this as a great opportunity for Disney to invest in quality over quantity and give us more projects as good as, say, the Andor TV series, finally getting their priorities straight.
