Community’s Donald Glover Teases Fans With The Movie Plot & Abed’s Fate
It’s closer than ever.
Summary:
- Community was an iconic NBC sitcom that ran for 6 seasons from 2009 to 2014.
- The show was supposed to end with a movie, but production was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
- Now that the script is finished, Donald Glover says the gang will get together for a reunion party.
While 2023 put a lot of great projects on hold, including Dan Harmon's comeback with Community: The Movie, 2024 promises to be far more exciting for all the sitcom fans out there. The prophecy of six seasons and the movie that the pop culture phenomenon gave itself during its run may finally come to fruition.
Although it won't be easy to get all the cast members together, as many of them have very busy schedules these days, once it's done, nothing can stand in the way of Community. Since it has always been and will most likely always be a passion project for everyone involved, fans are already predicting something incredible to come.
Donald Glover, who played Troy Barnes on the show but is now busy with his own TV series, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, not only let everyone know that the script is finished, but also teased fans about what will bring everyone back together.
What Community: The Movie Will Be About?
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Donald Glover mostly talked about the show he is working on as a writer and actor, Mr. & Mrs. Smith. However, he couldn't help but mention the Community movie. He not only teased the general structure of the story, but also a key detail of the fan-favorite character's future:
“[Dan Harmon] told me what he wanted, and I was like, “This sounds great.” It’s a college reunion, but Abed is like this big director now, and basically this is his magnum opus. I’m like, “This sounds f*cking tight,” the actor said.
So far, all fans have heard about the movie has come from the people potentially involved in its production. However, no official information has been released about shooting dates, a possible release date, the full cast, or a synopsis. The details that Glover shared in his interview are by far the most details that have been shared with the public.
From what we can gather from various interviews and mentions of the movie, it is only the question of scheduling that is keeping the production from unraveling.
The hope is that it will be settled soon enough to start shooting in 2024 and the movie will be released in 2025. Whether that will happen or not, we'll just have to wait and see.
