Colin Needs a Decade of Maturing for Bridgerton Season 3 Story to Work
Adapted from Julia Quinn's beloved Regency-set novels, Bridgerton took the world by storm when it premiered. It hit record-breaking numbers, with a whopping 82 million households having watched it by January 2021!
The show's success can be attributed to many things but at the center of it are, of course, fascinating characters who people can't get enough of. And that includes the Bridgertons, whose charms captivate the audience season after season.
So, when it comes to Colin Bridgerton, viewers undoubtedly have high expectations, which haven't been met so far. For that reason, him being the next season's leading male got fans talking, and they seem to unanimously agree that he needs to mature for season 3 to actually work. Let's explore why!
Simone Ashley Has a Warning for Bridgerton Fans About Season 3
When it was announced that the hit period drama would be focusing on Penelope and Colin's relationship in the upcoming season, many fans were surprised as they felt it was too soon. But while it was an unexpected turn of events, it's definitely an exciting development.
We're all looking forward to seeing how the showrunners will spin Colin and Penelope's romance, as sitting through another season of him being oblivious to Penelope's feelings would be quite frustrating, indeed.
However, that does mean we'll need to see some significant changes in Colin's character, especially in the maturity department.
Although out of all the Bridgerton brothers fans typically favor Anthony and Benedict, many viewers do like Colin, specifically for his sweet demeanor (apart from that one comment he made about Penelope to his friends, of course). And while previous male leads were intense and dominant, fans want to see a different direction for Colin and for him to bring more attentiveness and kindness.
Despite this appreciation, however, fans are adamant he needs a decade of maturing. And we mean that literally! The books gave him and Penelope 10 years to mature before their romance kicked off. That's a huge amount of time when it comes to character development. And within the two seasons we've seen, Penelope's character has been developed further than Colin's, which explains why so many people have felt like he doesn't bring much to the story.
The Colin we've seen so far comes off quite childish and stiff and doesn't really bring the charming lead character energy to the table just yet. Viewers have pointed out that they would love to see him have more depth and are hoping for a time jump.
And that makes perfect sense because Colin is very young, and he's a mystery to himself just as much as he is to the audience. He still needs to discover himself, and the writers will have to work hard to bring that depth out of him.
