Colin Farrell Calls the WGA Strike a 'Testament to Arrogance' as More Superstars Join the Cause
Today, it's exactly one month since the start of the Writers' strike, and more stars are showing their support for the Guild. Colin Farell's got something to say about it, too.
The Writer's Guild of America turned out to be a very patient hornet nest; still, after they felt like they'd been kicked for too long, the Guild members decided to put an end to this.
The large strike has virtually paralyzed the movie and TV industries as hundreds of films and shows are stuck without proper scripts now.
To the previous demands of the Guild members, a new one was recently added: the writers want to ban AI and neural networks from training on their source materials and scripts.
Amid the overwhelming boom of those technologies, this only seems like the right move to save a whole bunch of jobs for the writers.
More and more stars are showing their support for the WGA strike or even joining it directly.
Among the most recent additions to the Guild's cause are: Mark Ruffalo, Colin Farrell, Joel McHale, America Ferrera, Barack Obama, and Lil Wayne.
Dozens more celebrities have also voiced their standing with the Writer's Guild of America.
Colin Farrell, an Irish actor largely known for his lead roles in Gentlemen, The Batman, True Detective, In Bruges, etc., has joined the cause, too, and had a thing or two to say to the people in charge of the movie industry who'd been ignoring the writers for so long.
"It's a testament to the arrogance of those at the top that these people are now out of work because they are doing the right thing," claimed Farrell while standing at the WGA picket line.
As the support for the Writer's Guild's cause only grows and there are rumors of the Screen Actor's Guild and the Director's Guild joining in soon, it seems like it's high time for the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to give up before it's too late. With all this media attention and support, the Guilds' demands will only grow.
The Producer's Alliance's defeat seems absolutely inevitable, but they are somehow still in no rush to cut their losses.
We'll see where this "testament to their arrogance," as Colin Farrell put it, will take them in the next few months.
