Cillian Murphy's Iconic Crime Franchise to Start Filming Its Grand Finale This Fall
For the last time, the Oppenheimer star will spend his life living in the gangster’s paradise.
Summary:
- Steven Knight officially confirmed Peaky Blinders the Movie which will start shooting in September 2024.
- According to the director, they “have got all the commitments they need” and “Cillian is really up for it.”
- Based on the TV show’s timeline and Knight’s words, it’s safe to assume the movie will take place in WWII.
Despite his phenomenal acting chops, Cillian Murphy only gained the true recognition he deserves after Christopher Nolan ’s Oppenheimer where he played the lead part. Before that, Murphy’s most famous project was Peaky Blinders, an iconic gangster TV show created by Steven Knight, where he also portrayed the main character — an ambitious and shrewd crime family boss Tommy Shelby.
To all the Birmingham gangster enjoyers, rejoice: Peaky Blinders the movie has been officially confirmed by Knight, and we even learned some details about it!
Knight Confirms the Peaky Blinders Movie Dates
There have been quite a few rumors about the Peaky Blinders movie going around in the past few months, and Steven Knight and Cillian Murphy’s post-Oppenheimer “secret meeting” in a bar was already reason enough for fans’ excitement to grow. But what’s better than even the most respected insider’s information? Official confirmation, of course!
“It’s gonna happen. It’s gonna happen this September. I’m just doing the final polishes, which will continue up until the day before we start shooting. But we’re there. We’ve got everything sorted, we’ve got all the commitments we need, we are ready to go. I think the film is gonna be a step up again,” Knight revealed to NME.
The cameras will start rolling this fall already, and judging by the showrunner’s confidence, the date is set in stone. Speaking of “set,” do we know anything about the events and the setting of Peaky Blinders the Movie? We sure know something.
Peaky Blinders the Movie Takes the Shelbys to War
The original TV show started shortly after World War I where the Shelby brothers returned from, dead several times over and eager to turn their lives around. Over the course of six seasons, as time went on, the events were effectively leading us toward World War II — especially, with the last two seasons’ storyline.
This speculation has been popular for a long time, and based on Steven Knight’s recent words, it somewhat checks out. The director explained that for the movie, the budget had to be significantly bigger — largely because “they know they’re ending this chapter.” WWII is the end of an entire era where the Peaky Blinders thrived.
If we were gamblers, we’d bet everything we had on a WWII-related movie, perhaps with more focus on the new generation of the Shelbys… And judging from everything Knight and Murphy have achieved so far with Blinders, it’s going to be amazing.
