Even though the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is done and dusted, it was promised that Star-Lord would return. James Gunn shared his and Chris Pratt’s idea for Star-Lord’s solo movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy turned out to be one of Marvel’s most successful and beloved franchises, and the artistic duo of director Gunn and his lead actor Chris Pratt was one of the reasons for its immense popularity: the combined wit and humor of the two men made this trilogy into a truly one-of-a-kind story.

But after over ten years in the making, the GotG trilogy ended — and despite it being officially finished now, there are plans and insinuations of Star-Lord’s return: it was even directly promised at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s finale!

James Gunn is now extremely busy over at DC where he recently became the new co-head, so there’s little hope he’ll be able to tend to any Marvel projects in the future. Despite that, he has spent hours upon hours discussing the potential solo Star-Lord movie with Chris Pratt, and they had some brilliant ideas!

While recently speaking to ComicBook, Gunn revealed the concept that he and Pratt had come up with — and despite not being able to work on it himself, the director is certain that this idea would still be a great addition to Star-Lord story if done by someone else.

"Chris and I, forever, have talked about <...> a story with Star-Lord on Earth trying to adapt to the environment of Earth in the same way that somebody else might try to adapt to the alien environment of outer space. He's a fish out of water in just kind of… Regular water. So I can't wait to see it," shared James Gunn.

This concept does indeed sound interesting — and its comedic potential is just immense. Complemented by Chris Pratt’s witty genius, it can turn into a greatly entertaining movie, so here’s to hoping that someone decides to turn this idea into reality… And that this someone would be at least half as talented as James Gunn.
