Chris Evans Loved Being Saved by Ana de Armas after Years of Being Tough
Marvel fans see Chris Evans as cool and tough Captain America, but the actor himself was more than happy to become the “damsel in distress” for once.
Chris Evans is an amazing actor, and even though many viewers only recognize him as Captain America, he’s way more than Marvel’s most Lawful Good superhero. Evans is really versatile, and he plays very different roles across numerous movies — from a diabolic villain to a spoiled rich kid to a hopeless romantic who needs to be saved (and hugged).
The latter is his role in Ghosted where he co-stars with Ana de Armas. This movie finally allows Chris Evans to catch his breath and step away from the action sequences: in Ghosted, he was the damsel in distress, not his co-star. Evans’s Cole is but a sweet guy who tries to become closer to a pretty superspy girl he met.
While it’s definitely an unfamiliar role for us to see Chris play, the actor himself was really content with such a change of pace in this movie. In fact, enjoyed being rescued by Ana de Armas: in the first two movies they did together (Knives Out and The Gray Man), they were rivals rather than lovers or even friends.
“It was great. I mean, we’ve all seen Ana be badass; she was so good in [No Time to Die]. It was nice to be the damsel in distress. It was nice to need saving — primarily because I didn’t have to sweat during the action sequences,” Evans told Variety.
This wasn’t the only pleasant surprise from Ghosted that the actor thoroughly enjoyed. Their on-screen interactions with Ana de Armas were far from your typical love movie, and even though their characters were romantically interested in each other, their dynamic was more to Chris’s liking than what most other movies have.
“Even though there is a love interest in the beginning, most of the movie is this kind of Han Solo, Princess Leia friction, which is ostensibly just flirting. But again, most of the movie is an argument, and that’s fun because Ana’s really funny, really versatile, really open to improvisation. She was a perfect scene partner for this type of dynamic,” the actor shared.
While Ghosted was received more than coolly by the critics (26% on RT, ouch), it’s still quite a fun movie to watch — especially, thanks to this back-and-forth dynamic between Evans and de Armas. The audience’s opinion is split 50/50, so if you’re down for the ride, take a seat and see which side you’re on for yourself.
