A happy moment to balance the sadness.

If you are a big fan of NBC's OneChicago universe as a whole, there is already some execution news coming your way. Even though the shows are done for the season, all three have been renewed for the next, and are expected to return this fall for the start of the 2024/25 broadcast season.

Until then, you can always look back on past episodes and revisit some of your favorites. Chicago Fire fans will likely want to return to episode 6, Port in the Storm, which was a perfect send-off for Sylvie Brett and Matt Casey, who found happiness in Oregon after a wedding in Chicago. Season 12 of Chicago P.D. may do the same.

Will Burgess and Ruzek Marry in Chicago P.D?

The good news is, so far Chicago P.D. doesn’t plan to send anyone off. The show will need to take a moment to let the viewers make peace with the departure of Tracy Spiridakos, who played the main character Hailey Upton. However, once that emotional moment passes, it may be time to throw a little celebration.

Given that season 11 saw Burgess and Ruzek lowkey engagement, season 12 may have an episode that sets them off to married life. Speaking to TVLine, the series’ showrunner Gwen Sigan was very excited to dive into the wedding conversation:

“I’m very excited to get into it. So few times on this show do you get these really happy moments. I think it’ll be fun [to write]. There’s definitely a possibility of, ‘Are we going to do the wedding next year? Are we going to do the planning? What are we going to see?’ So, I’m excited to figure out all of that,” she teased.

Whether the ceremony will be as intimate and private as the proposal, or whether the couple will have to find a middle ground between inviting everyone and celebrating their marriage alone, we'll have to wait and see. What is clear now is that the wedding, in whatever format or capacity, will open a new chapter in the characters' relationship.

No premiere date has been set for Chicago P.D.'s return to NBC. So if you are interested in seeing where season 12 will take the team next, keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates to be the first to tune in.
