Chicago Fire S12 Newest Update Teases a ‘Rollercoaster Ride’
Andrea Newman, the Chicago Fire EP, warns: S12 is going to get hot right from the start, so stock up on water.
Summary:
- Chicago Fire Season 12 will premiere on January 17, 2024, but it will be a shortened season due to the actor’s strike’s aftermath.
- Season 12 will address several cliffhangers from S11, say farewell to two beloved characters, and welcome back the show’s favorite star.
- Andrea Newman, Chicago Fire’s showrunner, teased much drama and tension in the S12 premiere and explained her approach to actor quits.
Chicago Fire Season 12 is growing closer every day, and right before its January 17 premiere, the showrunner spilled some beans about the first episode. If fans were lacking in the excitement department, the EP’s recent revelations should fix that.
What’s to Be Expected from Chicago Fire S12?
Apart from the show’s bare essentials — fires, explosions, arson investigations, and a lot of drama — there are some more crucial things to know about Season 12. There will be impactful cast changes, and the S11 cliffhangers will be resolved, too.
When it comes to the cast, there’s good news and bad news. The bad news is that Kara Killmer and Alberto Rosende (Sylvie Brett and Blake Gallo) are leaving the show with S12 with their characters’ fates hanging in the air.
The good news is that both Taylor Kinney and Jesse Spencer (Kelly Severide and Matt Casey) will be back! And, of course, Rome Flynn will be a new Chicago Fire addition as Jake Gibson.
On the cliffhanger side, we’re expecting the resolutions to three major storylines: Stella Kidd going off to find her lost husband, Severide; Mouch struggling for his life after being wounded by shrapnel; and Brett considering Casey’s marriage proposal.
So, what can the Chicago Fire showrunner reveal about the upcoming season?
Chicago Fire Boss Spells Big Drama
Recently, Andrea Newman, the now-sole showrunner and executive producer of Chicago Fire, spoke to Variety about the upcoming season premiere and teased some dramatic changes and immediate fire (no pun intended) right off the bat.
“I would prepare for level 10 out of 10. There’s a lot going on and it really jumps out with a bang, literally. It’s quite a rollercoaster ride. All of these actors who have been waiting to jump back in and just bring it with everything they have, they’ve been at the top of their game,” Newman shared.
As for the much-anticipated S12 resolutions, the EP gave quite a few insights. For one, both Sylvie Brett and Blake Gallo, despite leaving Chicago Fire, will be part of the upcoming season for a while before that as their character arc will come to their logical conclusions. Newman teased that Brett’s soon exit will have to do with Casey’s proposal to her; as for Gallo and Violet, they’ll remain friends and that’s it.
The showrunner had many positive things to say about Rome Flynn, Chicago Fire’s latest addition, but since Season 12 is a short one, his Jake Gibson won’t be the centerpiece. This role is reserved solely for Kelly Severide, and that’s fair: fans have been impatiently awaiting Taylor Kinney’s return, and it’s the best news ever now that he’s back.
There will be big changes in Severide and Kidd’s relationship, too, with Kelly’s absence and new investigation adding much tension between the two. From Newman’s point of view, it doesn’t sound like Chicago Fire’s biggest couple will break up, but there will be shifts — and there definitely will be quite some drama, too.
Chicago Fire Season 12 premiere is dropping on January 17, 2024, so tune in to find out just how much trouble Kelly’s in and how Mouch is feeling after the incident!
