As Chicago Fire's S11 ended with a cliffhanger that potentially kills off one of the fan-favorite secondary characters, we've been waiting nervously for an update.

Chicago Fire has had a lot of interesting and lovable characters over the years, and while the main cast is now rather reduced (pretty much only leaving Stella when it comes to the OG Golden Trio), the secondary characters that are adored by the fans are still with us, alive and kicking… Well, almost all of them are, if you know what we mean.

Season 11 ended with a massive cliffhanger that potentially kills off one of the fan-favorite secondary characters.

In the last episode, Mouch falls victim during one of the calls, and just when we thought everything was good with the man, we got to see him literally flatlining in his hospital bed… And then the final episode ended.

While we'd rather call it a Dick move than a cliffhanger (FYI, we mean Dick Wolf, the creator of the series), the situation we're finding ourselves in is frustrating nonetheless: Mouch is flatlining, and even though he's literally in a hospital which implies he can survive, he's already done it — and we doubt he'll do it twice.

David Eigenberg, the Herrmann actor, finally addressed his fellow character's potential death in the next season, and just like us, he's not aware of Mouch's fate — but he really doesn't want his buddy to leave Chicago Fire.

Especially, not like this.

"I don't know what they're going to do, but I don't want to lose Christian [Stolte, the Mouch actor] because it'd be a huge hole in my life. There's a lot of love on our show. When we come back from the strike, we'll be in our 12th season. We've been together a lot," confessed Eigenberg.

For the actor, this is a rather personal matter: just like his Herrmann and Stolte's Mouch are friends on the screen, the two actors are best pals in real life. If Mouch turns out dead at the start of S12, this will be tough for Eigenberg.

"We've been through stuff. We've been through a lot on our show. I've watched Christian become a grandfather. Christian is one of the funniest guys on the show. He's a real sourpuss, but, man, is he funny.

We laugh a lot every day. I don't want to lose anybody on the show. We've got a great group. We don't have any jerks," said David.

We're totally with Eigenberg on this one: losing Mouch would be a devastating blow for many fans, and watching Herrmann suffer through this loss while knowing that the actor himself is hit by it in real life, too, would be a terrible start for S12.

We're pretty much just left to hope that Mouch can pull off his trick once again.
