All Chicago Fire deaths were painful, but this one was also a turning point.

As a show about the first responders, Chicago Fire loves to kill off fan-favorite characters and constantly remind viewers that no member of Firehouse 51 is safe. But perhaps this attitude toward characters – only as tools of increasing drama – has not served the show well.

Chicago Fire Fans Have Seen Enough of Their Favorites Die

Chicago Fire began with a death – Andy Darden died in a fire in the premiere episode. This was followed by the death of Shay, one of the show's biggest fan favorites. She was hit by a pipe during a call in the season two finale, leaving viewers with a huge cliffhanger, but fans didn't learn of her death until the season three premiere.

The same was true for Otis, another character for whom viewers grew increasingly sympathetic. Like Shay, Otis died a heroic death in a fire. Once again, the seventh season ended with the tense call, and the eighth season began with shocking news for fans who learned that Otis would no longer be appearing on the small screens.

One Chicago Fire Death Changed the Whole Show

According to fans, the death of Otis was the point of no return, after which the characters simply became generic and flat.

“Ever since Otis died the new characters have been so boring. I have not liked one paramedic since Sylvie Brett. Dawson, Shay, and Brett are the only cool paramedics throughout the entire series,” Reddit user Ill-Slice1196 wrote.

Many fans agree that once they become attached to a character, the Chicago Fire writers will kill them off or they will just leave the show. And if the series' creators continue to throw away fan favorites in this way, it is quite possible that it will lead to a drop in ratings. And we know what happens to TV shows with low ratings.

However, fans still have a stronghold of well-written characters, one of which is Violet, who almost all viewers cite as the best character in the entire show. Violet Mikami joined Chicago Fire in Season 8 and immediately captivated viewers and continues to do so to this day. So now fans are begging the writers to not kill her off.

Let's hope the Chicago Fire writers listen to the fans and stop killing off fan favorites and focus more on the personalities of the Firehouse 51 members rather than the unnecessary drama.
