Chicago Fire Is Lacking Fire So Bad, It’s Easier to Start a Whole New Show
We can keep the cast, though.
Summary:
- Although NBC's One Chicago remains one of the best procedurals on television, viewers are growing tired of the change.
- Chicago Fire fans, who were forced to say goodbye to three more characters this season, don't think the show will be able to bring back the old feeling.
- With so few original characters left, Chicago Fire does not feel like the same show.
One of the most important things about the casting for any show is how the actors interact with one another and create a feeling of the group. Though the star can fot the description of a character perfectly, if they lack the chemistry with the ensemble, their presence won’t be appreciated by any viewers.
All the procedurals which heavily rely on interpersonal relationships between the characters have to keep this in mind while working on their storylines. Of course, sometimes the actors express the need to move forward and pursuit other projects, and they need to be written off. However, when it happens to too many characters, it may be ruinous to the whole show as well.
Unfortunately for all the Chicago Fire fans, it feels like the show has lost too many people to rebuild the same chemistry the characters had in the beginning.
Who Left Chicago Fire?
Throughout its 12 seasons on NBC, Chicago Fire has gone through several cast changes.
Starting with the on-screen death of Lauren German as paramedic Leslie Shay, which shook the world of the viewers and showed how high the stakes are, to Jesse Spencer and Kara Killmer as newlyweds Casey and Brett, viewers have said goodbye to a total of 8 characters.
With some of the exits more tragic than others, fans have little to no time to recover from another loss when the next one comes around. While everyone loves and appreciates the characters that remain in the Chicago Fire cast, it's just not enough to keep the audience hooked.
On the r/ChicagoFireNBC subreddit, redditor pedalsteeltameimpala spoke about why the show just doesn't feel the same as it did seasons ago, and he summed up the main reasons for the change perfectly:
“I think a lot of it has to do with a majority of the original cast being gone, as well as the show being twelve seasons deep. Even with a jam packed cast, there are only so many storylines the writers and network want to explore I guess. Lots of repetition and staleness,” they said.
While the show is still mildly entertaining and comforting to many due to its nostalgic feel, and there's nothing wrong with new characters and cast members replacing beloved heroes, Chicago Fire just doesn't feel that firey anymore. To avoid wasting any more potential, it might be better to draw a line in the sand and start over with a new show.
Whether you're tired of the way Chicago Fire is going, or you love it no matter what and don't want anything to change, the show still needs your support for season 12. Be sure to tune in to NBC every Wednesday to never miss another episode!
