A remake of the French project about a brilliant cleaning lady who helps the police solve crimes.

High Potential is an adaptation of the French series HPI. The original project was a hit in its home country and inspired a number of remakes. Drew Goddard and Todd Harthan worked on the version for English-speaking audiences.

The show boasts an impressive cast: Kaitlin Olson shines as a cleaning lady, Judy Reyes plays the police chief and Daniel Sunjata is a sceptical detective.

What Is High Potential About?

Morgan is raising three children on a cleaning lady's salary. Despite her modest career ambitions, the ordinary looking single mother has great intellectual potential. One day, during a shift at the police station, Morgan notices a mistake on the evidence board and corrects it.

A daring act and the woman's further involvement in the investigation help the police to close the murder case. The cleaning lady's outstanding skills impress the head of the Major Crimes Division, Selena, who offers Morgan a full-time position as a special consultant.

Morgan agrees, on the condition that the police solve the problem with the nanny and help find her husband, who disappeared many years ago.

High Potential Is a Classic and Intriguing Detective Procedural

Structurally, High Potential follows the rules of a classic crime procedural: each episode is devoted to a separate intriguing investigation, during which the characters inevitably solve a complicated case.

A considerable amount of screen time is devoted to an intricate puzzle: all the crimes are cleverly twisted. The simple scheme is diluted by a through-plot about the main character's life outside the police station.

High Potential Is One of the Best Roles of Kaitlin Olson

Of course, High Potential is first and foremost a benefit performance for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Kaitlin Olson, whose acting talent is revealed here from a slightly different perspective.

The charismatic comedian brings the audacity and eccentricity of her previous roles to the role of the brilliant cleaning lady, but at the same time she is able to demonstrate serious dramatic potential, especially in scenes where the character's maternal instincts come to the fore rather than her detective ambitions.

High Potential does not invent anything new in the genre, the details of the individual investigations sometimes completely repeat the plots of the original series. At the same time, the remake's lightness and charming characters win you over from the very first minutes.
