Chicago Fire has been around for more than a decade at this point, and over the course of twelve seasons, the show has introduced viewers to a wide cast of characters, with some actors leaving and newcomers taking their places.

Sylvie Brett, portrayed by Kara Killmer, joined the show in season 3, replacing Leslie Shay, played by Lauren German, after she met her tragic end in the season 2 finale.

It took some time for both the fans and the characters who had come to know and love Shay to adjust to the new member of the team, and for some viewers, Brett never fully replaced Leslie, even after many seasons.

Regardless, for better or worse, the upcoming sixth episode of season 12 will mark the end of Brett's journey, as Kara Killmer will officially leave the show, leaving fans with mixed feelings.

It Took Fans a Long Time to Get Used to Her

Although many of them were pretty indifferent to the character when she debuted all those years ago, it suddenly turned out that saying goodbye to Brett might not be as easy as it first seemed.

While Brett has had her fair share of annoying moments, such as the artificially prolonged storyline between her and Matthew Casey that took far more time to develop than it should have, most viewers have come to love and appreciate her.

Some fans even share that she has become a sort of "comfort character" for them, and they have wholeheartedly enjoyed watching her become an integral part of the show's cast.

Brett Got a Much Better Ending Than Others

Fans also point out that while they are happy that Brett is about to get the happy finale she deserves, a luxury not many characters on the show can afford, they would have preferred her to stay on the series.

Of course, the show will go on without Sylvie, and it just means that she will most likely be replaced by another character, who may turn out to be quite good, but it will still take some time to get used to him or her, just like it did with Brett.

Episode 6 of season 12 will premiere on February 28, 2024.
