Storm warning: here comes a real banger!

While the summer box office is being dominated by Inside Out 2, there is an upcoming flick that promises to blow the audience away (almost in the literal sense of the word). Yes, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell ’s Twisters is predicted to be a massive hit.

However, you may have missed that the disaster movie we’re waiting for now is in fact a standalone sequel to the 1996 thriller that deserves a rewatch itself. Moreover, it is now conquering HBO’s global top, taking the sixth place in it, so it’s high time to give it a try.

The movie’s plot revolves around Bill, a TV weatherman on his way to assure his wife Jo to sign divorce papers so that he can marry his girlfriend. However, life has other plans, as all three should now team up to save Oklahoma from being ruined by a tornado.

The point is Jo is a scientist and a storm-chaser who has developed a revolutionary measuring device that must be put into the very heart of a violent storm named Dorothy. This risky mission is claimed to set free both Bill and the whole state.

Such a synopsis seems to be already of much interest, as it blends the themes of a violent catastrophe, scientific research and personal struggles related to romances.

The movie certainly gives a wild ride, as it appears to be a brand-new blockbuster that centers on both the grandeur and the characters. It makes this disaster flick stand out among other movies of that kind, as they often forget about character development.

Be sure that the leads are really memorable here, and it’s also a merit of the actors portraying them. The movie’s cast assembles such acclaimed 90s stars as Helen Hunt (What Women Want), Bill Paxton (Titanic ) and Cary Elwes (Bram Stoker's Dracula).

Titled Twister, it was a huge sensation that grossed $495.7 million against a budget of $88–92 million back in 1996 and since then has acquired the status of a cultish thriller.

“One of my favorite movies from the 90s hands down, I grew up with this one & it's got a lot of nostalgia value for me. It's one of those films that had great & likable characters too,” admits Redditor @ThatKoffeeBurns.

While the new take on tornado-hunters airs only on July 19, you can check out the original Twister movie, as it’s now available for streaming on Max.
