With just a couple more seasons left to go, it’s time to think about what’s next.

While it's pretty obvious that all of The Boys ' characters are meant to be superhero caricatures, showing how the infinite power these characters have would play out if they weren't so selfless and dedicated to saving the world, there's still a deeper meaning behind each of them. All of the supes come with a lot of trauma to unpack.

And Chace Crawford, who portrays The Deep on the show, is ready to take this therapeutic activity to the next level.

When asked to reflect on his character's development over the past three seasons of the show and explain some of the metaphors behind him, the actor is almost overwhelmed. There is always a lot to say about The Deep and his dreadful ways, but too little to really open up the character for viewers.

Crawford shared his thoughts on The Deep in an interview with Discussing Film:

“From the outset, he represents this male privilege asshole who’s kind of a baby. The origins of The Deep, we don’t know yet. We might need to do an origin story on The Deep. The way I see his back story, he grew up as this good-looking guy who was privileged but was also bullied for the gills. That’s the source of his insecurity,” he said.

Though The Boys has already been heavily criticized for glorifying villains and bringing positive attention to all sorts of horrible things, The Deep could have been a perfect character to build a spinoff around. Bizarre enough to grab viewers' attention, and mysterious enough to keep the show from becoming repetitive.

Many The Boys fans would be very excited about a spinoff of any kind, but right now the first priority is to get the upcoming season 4 on their screens. Although the filming went as planned and the post-production seems to be on schedule, there is no way to predict when The Boys season 4 will be released.

According to series creator Eric Kripke, the show will continue as soon as the WGA writers' strike is resolved. Until then, you can watch all the previous seasons of The Boys on Amazon Prime Video.
