Channing Tatum Keeps Pushing Himself as MCU's Gambit, But Fans Don't Want Him
When Disney bought Fox, Tatum's hopes for a standalone Gambit movie got brushed under the rug, but the actor doesn't want to give up.
Channing Tatum has revealed that he keeps calling Marvel from time to time to receive updates on his Gambit movie project that could possibly become a part of Marvel's plans for X-Men spinoff. However, there has been little progress on that.
"Ultimately I just think that the tone of the movie we wanted to make was very far from what they wanted to do—or, you know, maybe they're waiting to see how they do it with us or without us," Tatum told Vanity Fair, referring to himself and his producing partner, Reid Carolin. "We call every once in a while, but we've got to spiritually, emotionally, kind of mentally let it go."
This is where fans agree with the actor, saying that too much time has passed already for him to become Marvel's Gambit. Others noted that Tatum's efforts are giving off "The Rock campaigning to be Black Adam for 15 years" energy.
"I feel like Channing is too big of a guy to play Gambit. Someone lankier and rougher like Austin Butler would do nicely—not only that, but I'm confident that he could master a Cajun accent," Twitter user Garanseho said.
Despite the project's bad luck, there still might be a chance for Tatum to play Marvel's Gambit. Some fans suggested that the studio could have him as a one-time variant in Secret Wars or in any other upcoming multiverse-related project.
As of now, the best strategy is to sit back and watch MCU entering Phase 5 and mapping out the future of its characters — and potential actors.
