Cate Blanchette Is A Real Outlaw In 'Borderlands' CinemaCon Footage
It looks like video game fans may finally be getting a thoughtful and interesting adaptation of the bestselling game series 'Borderlands'.
Developed by Gearbox Software and known for its bright colors, funny scenarios and the desolate world of the planet Pandora, the game 'Borderlands ' seemed destined to become a movie franchise. Now, thanks to director Eli Roth ('Hostel', 'Green Hell'), that idea is finally coming to fruition.
With an incredible cast of outlaws including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jack Black, 'Borderlands' is poised to be a huge hit and a much-needed breath of fresh air for video game adaptations.
Filming began last year, so Lionsgate's screening of the footage at CinemaCon 2022 was quite anticipated. The one-minute video didn't reveal much in terms of the film's narrative, but it did give us a glimpse of Blanchett's unusual and utterly stunning new look.
Sporting a red wig and totting some guns, Blanchett was seen fighting her way through colorful and richly detailed cityscape. Hart's character Roland also appeared in the scene, as did Jack Black's Claptrap, a small but delightfully funny robot bouncing around the world on just one wheel.
It looks like Roth is trying to make his new movie as faithful to the original as possible, but some fans are still hesitant, remembering how unsuccessful recent video game adaptations have been.
Some fans remain unhappy with Hart's choice for the role of Roland, arguing that the actor is too small to authentically portray this beloved character.
'Borderlands' release date is yet to be revealed.
