Castle's Behind-The-Scenes Beef That Drove Main Star to Tears And Cancelled The Show
The relationship between the two leads was much more tense than the one between their characters on the screen.
For many, Castle has captivated viewers with a compelling mix of drama, mystery, intrigue, and romance.
The show, which ran for eight seasons, was a critical and popular success, praised for how well it portrayed the relationships between Castle, Beckett, and the rest of the team, as well as for its captivating mysteries.
So when Castle was unexpectedly canceled after season 8, it came as a shock to die-hard fans.
As it turned out, actors Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, who played lovers for eight years, could not stand each other in real life. Most often, the fights ended with Katic locking herself in her dressing room and crying.
It is worth noting that almost all of the actors on the show have had conflicts with Fillion, but it was his on-screen partner who got the most of it.
When Stana's contract expired, she decided not to renew it and to move on in search of new projects and a friendlier work environment.
In the end, it was apparently decided not to continue the series without the female lead, as replacing Katic, who played Detective Beckett for eight years, would only cause confusion and dissatisfaction among fans.
The series followed the life of top-selling author Richard Castle, who, while suffering from writer's block, murdered the title character of his popular book series.
Castle then found himself at the police station being questioned about a murder similar to the one he described in one of his books.
There he met Detective Kate Beckett and, using his connections with the mayor, was able to follow her around under the pretense that he needed information and inspiration for a new book.
Along the way, Castle and Beckett worked out their differences, and their friendship gradually transformed into love.
The series ended abruptly with a happy ending, although the show crew had hoped for an extension of the series. The finale was a sugary-sweet happy ending that was revealed in the last two minutes of the last episode.
Despite fan criticism of such finale, it's hard to imagine a show like Castle ending any other way.
