There could have been a 7th friend in the show, but something went wrong.

Friends is an iconic show of the 90's about a group of 6 friends living (or just trying to live) their best life in New York.

The show has a lot of romance, no shortage of drama, and a lot of really funny scenes that turned into memes and catchphrases that we still use today.

But besides the six main characters, there were a lot of supporting ones who earned as much love from the fans as almost the leads of the show.

For example, Janice, one of Chandler's girlfriends. She appears in almost every season for some episodes and her presence never goes unnoticed.

But there was one particular character who had been in almost every episode there ever was, but never got much credit. He gets the character who is desperately in love with Rachel, but she never finds out.

He doesn't have many lines in 10 seasons of the show. But all that could have been changed if the writers hadn't killed off one storyline.

It was a storyline that involved both Gunther and Rachel. And it actually could have made the barista one of the series' regulars, or even the seventh member of the gang.

It's interesting because Gunther, portrayed by James Michael Tyler, was never intended to be more than an extra. But he became so popular with the fans that the showrunners decided to give him more screen time.

So this story that was cut was about Gunther and Rachel becoming roommates. It was already in the script.

But when the actors read the first draft of the script, they felt there was something wrong with the whole idea of that storyline. It just felt forced compared to how organically everything else in the show always happened.

With that storyline, the only chance for Gunther to be more than just a weird blond guy falling for Rachel just went away. This makes fans very upset, because Gunther's character was fascinating.

That is why he was so popular, and the storyline would have allowed him to shine even more on Friends.
