Can Viserys Targaryen Be a Dreamer?
It's (almost) common knowledge that his daughter Helaena appears to be a dreamer, but what if it runs in the family?
There might be a chance that King Viserys Targaryen is a dreamer – someone who is capable to see visions of the future.
At least that's what some fans believe after rewatching some of the Viserys scenes. With the first season now being over, many things that were not clear in the beginning now seem quite obvious.
Take the notorious Aegon prophecy that Viserys had been sticking to his entire life. Let's recall exactly what he told Alicent about his male heir.
"I saw it in a dream, as vivid as these flames. A male babe born to me... wearing the Conqueror's crown," he said back at the time.
Ironically, his vision actually turned out to be prophetic, as his son named Aegon ended up wearing the crown – even though it sent House Targaryen into a bloody and violent civil war.
Does it mean that Viserys, just like his daughter Helaena, is a dreamer and an actual prophet?
Although everything seems to be falling in line, some fans believe that it's more about how circumstances turned out to be and a lot less about Viserys' prophetic gift.
"It is a nice Oedipus Rex moment, Viserys telling Alicent about the prophecy is the reason why she has Aegon crowned thus confirming the prophecy," Redditor raumeat suggested.
In fact, fans believe that Viserys' prophecy makes a lot more sense if he wasn't a dreamer but just a regular person who wished for something to become true for so long and with so much passion that it ended up becoming reality.
Anyhow, Viserys was not officially confirmed to have any kind of supernatural abilities. In the show, we didn't even see him riding a dragon.
However, his daughter Helaena is not explicitly referred to as a dreamer as well, even though she is clearly being established as someone who is capable of catching glimpses of the future. Still, the way she translates them is vague and not always immediately understandable.
Perhaps we will get to know more about the Targaryen dreamers in season 2 of House of the Dragon. It is expected to start filming in early 2023, with the premiere date to be announced later.
