Beef Season 1 has beaten all streaming records, but what can Hollywood stars bring to its continuation?

Summary:

  • Beef Season 2 has been announced as an anthology featuring two couples, one of them played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway.
  • They already worked together for Brokeback Mountain and Love & Other Drugs.
  • The second couple will be portrayed by Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny.

Beef, Netflix ’s last year banger series about two complicated personas (played by the actors Steven Yeun and Ali Wong) feuding with each other, is now picking up trophies left and right.

These days, during the cinema awards season, it has won Golden Globes, the Spirits and PGA Awards for both the acting part and directing, as well as the original screenplay. The first season has its clear ending, which upset its numerous fans around the world, who would like to observe further development of their favorite show.

Hopefully, it has been announced that the show will continue, despite the end of their initial characters’ arcs, featuring completely new characters as an anthology. Even though it’s still far from being released, Beef’s showrunner Lee Sung Jin teases us with a surprising detail concerning the choice of the cast for the next season.

It has been revealed that Beef Season 2 will now present two feuding couples, one of them played by the rising internet-loved stars of the last year, Charles Melton (May December) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), while the second couple is going to be portrayed by the acclaimed Hollywood stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Stringer, Nightcrawler, Prisoners) and Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada, The Dark Knight Rises).

The latter couple has already played together in both Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain in 2005 and Ed Zwick’s Love & Other Drugs in 2010, so their potential reunion at the Beef’s set will happen after 14 years since their last work together.

The onscreen chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Hathaway was so memorable and felt so real that the above-mentioned movies have become today’s classics that fans love to return to.

The Internet community received this news with great joy and anticipation, ready to dive into nostalgia for the romance of Love & Other Drugs.

“My teenage wishes have been answered,” shares the X-user @rihanatsona.

However, some fans of the original Beef complained it should stay as a one-season show, perfect in its completeness.

There can be literally no doubt Gyllenhaal and Hathaway will give us excellent performances together, as well as Melton and Spaeny, whose acting chemistry is not discovered yet, but their acting skills leave us no choice but to applaud.

According to Beef’s creators, the production of the second season is expected to start by the late summer or fall of 2024. Before we update you on the following details of its filming, you can now stream the brilliantly built first season on Netflix.
