Bridgerton’s Luke Thompson already has fans spiraling over his character, and his linguistic skills have just given viewers all the more reason to love Benedict.

Bridgerton may have decided to skip Benedict’s season for now, choosing to focus on Colin instead, but fans aren’t skipping any of Luke Thompson’s interviews. A couple of months ago, the actor stopped by Rob Brydon’s talk show and surprised everyone.

Apart from discussing how he landed his Bridgerton role and what other projects he had lined up, Thompson shared that he had grown up in France and even spoke a little bit of French with the show’s host.

Brydon even complimented the actor’s French accent, but joked that his vocabulary was not so good, to which Thompson agreed.

Bridgerton fans have been obsessing over the star’s accent ever since in the comments. They even sound ready to start a petition to have Benedict speak some French on the show. Maybe he can discuss the intricacies of art with some visiting French painter? Yes, please! That would be completely in-character for him – after all, he is part of London’s higher society.

Although, other fans are convinced that Benedict throwing some French around on Bridgerton is not happening. Bridgerton is set in the beginning of the 19th century, and that was when Britain was at war with France. However, the series takes place in an alternate reality where racial issues are different, so who knows, maybe Britain is not at odds with its neighbor there.

Anyway, Thompson himself is fully bilingual. He was brought up in France from the age of two, and he studied at an international school in Fontainebleau from 1997 to 2005. Upon graduation at 17 years old, the actor returned to his homeland in 2006.

We don’t know about you, but we want Luke Thompson to get cast in a French-language movie or show as soon as possible. If he can’t show off his awesome accent in Bridgerton, devoted fans should be able to hear it somewhere, right? It’s only fair.

How many times have you listened to Luke Thompson’s French accent?
